Barblina Meierhans

Swiss composer, born 1981

Barblina Meierhans creates works in the disciplines of instrumental composition, music theatre and installations. She reduces rather than elaborates: she seeks to discover the essence of a sound-related situation. It is in this specific regard that their farthest-reaching abstract links are forged.

Barblina Meierhans studied composition, violin, viola and experimental musictheatre and transdisciplinarity at University of the Arts in Zurich, Bern and Dresden. She has been inspired in her composition work by

people such as Mark Andre, Manos Tsangaris, Franz Martin Olbrisch, Georges Aperghis, Daniel Weissberg and Xavier Dayer. In 2015, holder of the City of Zurich's Foreign Studio Scholarship Berlin (Auslandatelier-Stipendium Berlin); in 2013, studio residency in Bangalore and New Delhi by Pro Helvetia; in 2012, three-month residency in the Rome; in 2011, scholarship-holder at the NAIRS Contemporary Art Center; 2010, she was awarded the Canton of Bern’s Trächsel scholarship BEST.
