Mirka Scepanovic

Mirka Scepanović was born in 1981 in Belgrade, where she had her first violin lessons at age of seven. She continued her violin studies with Vesna Stankovic at Music Academy in Belgrade, with Rainer Schmidt in “Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía”, where her Majesty the Queen honored Mirka Scepanovic with the distinction as “Most Outstanding Student in the Violin section” in the years 2006 and 2007. She completed her master studies at the Music Academy in Basel, with Rainer Schmidt, where she received her master’s degree with distinction. Mrs. Scepanovic has received important artistic input from masterclasses with Ferenc Rados, Walter Levin, Menahem Pressler, Kolja Blacher and Zakhar Bron.

As a dedicated chamber musician Mirka Scepanovic had a chance to perform at ‘Open Chamber Music Festival’ in Prussia Cove, England, ‘Festival Internacional de Santander’, Musique de Chambre à Giverny. In the course on her studies she discovered her love for contemporary music, leading to engagements at European festivals such as Donaueschingen Festival of Contemporary Music, Impuls Festival, Graz, Scelsi Festival Basel. She had a chance to work with composters such as Peter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, Georg Friedrich Haas, Salvatore Sciarrino, Jürg Wittenbach and Roland Moser. She is a guest violinist at Ensemble Recherche (Freiburg), Camerata Variabile (Basel) and Ensemble Phoenix (Basel) as well as member of Sinfonietta Basel.
