Since 2014 I have been working on a project called Gycklarmusik, which translates to Joker Music. It has so far reached to become five parts, all for various small ensembles or solo instruments and they contain a series of aphoristic compositions; No. 1-4 for solo violin, No. 5-9 for ensemble, No. 10 for solo guitar, No. 11-14 for solo flute and No. 15 for Viola da Gamba. The idea is to use similar themes and gestures to maintain a thread throughout the work. Important parts of the expression
in this music is the density, brevity, core fullness and wild contrasts. One can say that I lurk or «joke» with the listeners anticipations putting hard against soft, high against low in unexpected and (hopefully) sometimes beautiful ways. Although the pieces tend to grow in length the longer one comes into the work, these characteristic are still very much the same. This latest piece in this work, No. 16 for string quartet, was composed especially for the quartets Béla and Asasello in conjunction with the Archipel Academy.
