Olga Kokcharova is a sound artist, musician and visual artist based in Geneva. Born in Siberia, she immigrated to Switzerland at the age of 16. Her small childhood town, built around centers of scientific research in the taiga, is a perfect image to illustrate her artistic intention. Within her projects, precision and complex intellectual challenges (as in her compositions based on linguistic concepts) mingle with sensitivity and intuition. In 1993, she began studying piano and voice. Since 2005, she has been involved in experimental music and
visual arts.
Her sound installations and performances, often designed for the public space, are specific to the place. And even within her practice of improvisation, the context influences her instrumental choices: piano, piano frame, cinema organ, computer, analog synthesizer, sewing machine... In her electroacoustic compositions, she favors a meticulous sound recording where most of the work is done at the time of registration. Captured very closely, as in a microscope, these sounds form compositions that accentuate their poetic strength and the astonishment that emanates from them.
