Contrechamps is a group of soloists committed to the creation, development and performance of new and experimental music since 1977. The Ensemble is working to break down barriers and highlight the diversity of aesthetics and actors in the contemporary scene. Contrechamps has worked closely with composers such as Pierre Boulez, Rebecca Saunders, Brian Ferneyhough, Beat Furrer, Klaus Huber, Michael Jarrell and Matthias Pintscher amongst many others. For the 2018-2019 season, pieces have been commissioned from Dror Feiler, Rebecca Glover, Samuel Andreyev, Fernando Garnero, Xavier Palà i Nosàs and Leonardo Marino. The Ensemble also regularly presents swiss premieres. Michael Wendeberg was music director from 2011 to 2018 and guests conductors include Emilio Pomàrico, Heinz Holliger and Elena Schwarz. Guest international soloists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Christoph Prégardien, Yeree Suh or Kai Wessel have played with the ensemble. And festivals

such as Festival d'Automne in Paris, the Salzburg Festival, Venice Biennale, Donaueschinger Musiktage, MaerzMusik in Berlin, the Lucerne Festival have invited the group. Contrechamps collaborates with the HEM (Music College) and various music schools in Geneva to share its expertise with the next generation. Students are invited to participate in an immersive way as part of the season. Regular collaborations with other musical institutions and museums in the city help to strengthen the cultural fabric of Geneva. An extensive education and conferences programme allow the Ensemble to share its passion with an audience of all ages and backgrounds. Éditions Contrechamps publishes important works on contemporary music every year and organises a series of conferences directed by Philippe Albèra. Ensemble Contrechamps has recorded more than twenty CDs and is planning three new releases in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
