Working on a text such as Dante's Paradiso, the third part of his Divine Comedy, is no easy task. Here I have tried to convey the most essential elements by using in turn the Italian text with its translation into French. The essence of this long poem is above all the circular movement that characterises Dante's ascent through the various spheres of heaven, until the last, the Empyrean, the heaven of fire.
In addition to
movement, there are also light and shade, the latter gradually disappearing during the ascent.
Five parts guide the listener: 1. Prologue 2. The Shadow of the Earth 3. The Flight of the Lights 4. The Golden Ladder 5. The Heaven of Fire. The two accordions enjoy a counterpoint that complements that of the voices, thus reinforcing their identity. Used in certain places, the microtonality of both instruments highlights the unreal character of these visions.
