The composition of this short piece was based on Florence Delay's text Revenant, which relates the return of a dead person to places he was familiar with. As its main motif, the piece hinges on repeated notes that gradually transform into a climax in the middle of the piece, corresponding to the words «he is alive». The presentation of this motif then changes, slowing down before progressively disappearing. At the end, the altos hold a long, hummed note, symbolising the departure of «the new man».
