This composition is based on a reading of one of Borges' tales, The Circular Ruins, which appears in his collection Fictions.
Some of the tale's subjects inspire both the musical form and the relationships between instrument and electronics, in particular a circular temporal conception and a status of questioned reality. In the story, a magician/artist dreams of a man to whom he gives life - «the dream woke» - but, terrified, finally understands that «he too was a mere appearance, dreamt by another».
The
confusion between illusion and reality, the idea that life is a dream, the musing, the artistic vertigo, the lack of certitude, the imaginary in optical illusions and the mise en abîme… these also guide the creation of relationships between the piece's instrument and electronics: sounds become abstract, distorted and filtered; sound textures are composed of the whole of both elements, whether distinguishable or not within such a mixture; sorts of dialogues, both instrumental and electronic, are formed between one universe and another.
